Now, Zyn users are buzzing about another purported side effect: Some claim that their habit has triggered weight loss. Andrea Hernández, author of consumer trend newsletter Snaxshot, pointed out this craze this week, sharing a collection of social media posts about Zyn and weight loss. "I've used Zyn nicotine pouches occasionally over the past few years but have started to use them regularly because they help me focus and curb my hunger," a Reddit user wrote in r/intermittentfasting. While nicotine pouches circumvent the health effects of cigarettes that are caused by tobacco, they still do a number on your body. She worries that "we don't fully understand how nicotine works to regulate appetite in people, specifically with obesity."

I'm a student at Cornell University studying government, but one afternoon on campus was unique. I started my day at the on-campus farm, meeting the sheep, pigs, and cows. AdvertisementAs a government major at Cornell, I hadn't expected agricultural enrichment to be part of my college experience. However, my love of plants and animals consistently leads me back to the Cornell barns and fields — despite having no immediate relevance to my degree. As my friend was an animal-science major and researcher who worked there, she lifted the latch and led us inside, starting my unique day as a Cornell student.

Facebook and Instagram users will start seeing labels on AI-generated images that appear on their social media feeds, part of a broader tech industry initiative to sort between what’s real and not. It could be “quite effective” in flagging a large portion of AI-generated content made with commercial tools, but it won't likely catch everything, she said. Meta already puts an “Imagined with AI” label on photorealistic images made by its own tool, but most of the AI-generated content flooding its social media services comes from elsewhere. A number of tech industry collaborations, including the Adobe-led Content Authenticity Initiative, have been working to set standards. A push for digital watermarking and labeling of AI-generated content was also part of an executive order that U.S. President Joe Biden signed in October.

Marc Andreessen thinks student loan borrowers who received loan forgiveness are akin to companies and banks that got government bailouts rescuing them from bankruptcy. In a two-hour podcast titled "Crisis in Higher Ed & Why Universities Still Matter," published by his firm Andreessen Horowitz, Andreessen took issue with people having some or all of their outstanding student debt erased in actions by the Biden administration. Andreessen Horowitz is a major SVB customer, and the bank also invested billions in the firm's funds. The Biden Administration also had a broader student debt relief plan struck down by the US Supreme Court last year, and it has moved forward with targeted relief programs based on specific borrower criteria. In response to Andreessen's issue with student loan forgiveness, A16z cofounder Ben Horowitz responded with the argument that, although the action provides relief for some, it does not address "the real issue."

Workers at Ford voted 69.3% in favor of the pact, which passed with nearly a 15,000-vote margin in balloting that ended early Saturday. Earlier this week, GM workers narrowly approved a similar contract. They also agreed in principle to bring new electric-vehicle battery plants into the national union contract. This provision will give the UAW an opportunity to unionize the EV battery plants plants, which will represent a rising share of industry jobs in the years ahead. Contracts with the auto companies should also lead to higher wages at auto-parts supply companies and in other industries, Wheaton said.

Target CEO Brian Cornell says shoppers are pulling back, even on groceries, as they feel stressed about their budgets. "But even in food and beverage categories, over the last few quarters, the units, the number of items they're buying, has been declining," he said in the interview. With the comments, Target doubled down on a cautious outlook, as it gears up for the crucial holiday season. During the height of the pandemic, it didn't have enough merchandise because of pandemic-related supply chain bottlenecks. Over the past few years, Cornell said shoppers have typically sprung for more purchases during "seasonal moments" such as Halloween or Mother's Day — a factor that could help in the coming months.

Target CEO Brian Cornell defended his decision to pull some of the retailer's Pride Collection merchandise off shelves earlier this year, saying backlash against the items led to the most serious safety threats that he can recall in his decade with the company. Target has sold merchandise timed for Pride month, which celebrates LGBTQ+ people and issues in June, for more than a decade. In August, Cornell said the strong reaction to the company's Pride collection contributed to Target's disappointing sales in the second quarter. Cornell said in the CNBC interview he thinks the Pride response is no longer hurting Target financially, though he noted the retailer faces other challenges. Cornell's full interview with CNBC will air later Thursday as part of CNBC Evolve.

Target CEO Brian Cornell will meet with President Joe Biden on Thursday afternoon as the retailer — and the White House — try to figure out U.S. consumers. Cornell is one of about a half dozen business leaders across industries who will offer up their point of view on the economy and the labor market at the White House. Through a spokesperson, Target confirmed Cornell's attendance at the meeting, but deferred to the White House for more details about the content of the meeting. Biden's meeting with the business leaders comes as the White House gears up for the next presidential election — a time when his track record on the economy and inflation will be under the microscope. Healthcare workers strike in front of Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center, as more than 75,000 Kaiser Permanente healthcare workers go on strike from October 4 to 7 across the United States, in Los Angeles, California, U.S. October 4, 2023. WHAT ARE KAISER WORKERS' DEMANDS AND WHAT IS THE COMPANY OFFERING? Some of the key demands by the workers include higher pay to keep up with the cost of living, a $25-per-hour minimum wage for all healthcare workers, and a reformed bonus structure. The union insists Kaiser needs to hire 10,000 new healthcare workers to fill current vacancies, as well as "fix broken hiring processes" that are preventing full staffing. The unions are asking Kaiser Permanente to make massive investment in the education and training of future healthcare workers, and for a diminished role for vendors and third-party contractors that the healthcare network relies on.

"Despite our willingness to bargain Ford and GM have refused to make meaningful progress," Fain said in a video address Friday morning. It began on Sept. 15, when workers struck at one plant each from GM, Ford and Stellantis. The UAW did not strike at Ford distribution facilities last week, citing progress in talks with that company. Analysts estimate GM, Ford and Stellantis earn as much as $15,000 per vehicle on each of their respective large pickup truck models. The Ford assembly plant in Chicago builds the Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator SUVs, while the GM plant in Lansing makes the Chevy Traverse and Buick Enclave SUVs.

Sept 23 (Reuters) - U.S. auto workers expanded their strike on Friday with a clear target for distress: dealers who sell and service GM and Stellantis vehicles. The strategy of choking parts delivery increases problems for some dealers who say it already had been difficult to source some components. The broader strike, which targets 38 parts distribution centers owned by GM and Stellantis, "is going to have these shops telling their customers 'We don't know when we can fix your vehicle. "It's definitely going to impact customers," said Thomas Morris, 60, who went on strike on Friday at a General Motors parts distribution center in the suburbs of Philadelphia. The center serves GM dealerships from Pennsylvania to Maine, moving some 30,000 parts for auto repairs each day, workers said.

The truth is we are going to wreck the billionaire economy," said UAW President Shawn Fain. UAW vice president Chuck Browning, who is leading talks with Ford, told a rally of hundreds of UAW workers in downtown Detroit on Friday afternoon that recent talks have made "good progress, but we have far to go." Striking workers said "tier two" employees can make only half the hourly wages of senior UAW workers and get worse benefits. GM said on Thursday the UAW wage and benefits proposals would cost the automaker $100 billion, but did not elaborate. Biden's likely opponent, former president Donald Trump, on Friday criticized the shift to EVs as a job-killer for the UAW.

Members of the United Auto Workers union hold a rally and practice picket near a Stellantis plant in Detroit, Aug. 23, 2023. Gallup reports 71% of Americans approved of labor unions in 2022 — the highest since 1965. United Airlines struck a preliminary agreement with its pilots union last month for up to 40% raises over four years. Casey Murray, president of the Southwest Airlines Pilots Association, said frequent reassignments can wear pilots down, just as they would passengers. "They need that predictability," he said, adding that the company has made some progress in talks with the pilots' union in recent weeks.

So they need to think of other ways to generate pressure," Kallas told Insider. "This shows what students and Starbucks workers demanding accountability can look like," Brisack told Insider. Union organizers across these stores, many of whom were also Cornell students, said the closures constituted an act of union-busting. Sara Trilling, president of Starbucks North America, said Starbucks later closed the remaining Ithaca stores in an ongoing effort to "transform our store portfolio." Evan Sunshine, a Cornell student who worked at two different Ithaca Starbucks locations until each one closed, said Cornell's decision is a step in the right direction.

The median employee — a part-time hourly worker — earned $25,993 for the full year. Cornell's pay ratio works out to 680 times that of the median worker, down from last year's figure of 775. That works out to a CEO-to-median worker pay ratio of 680 to one. McMillon's pay ratio was even higher, earning 933 times the typical worker's annual pay. Most companies argue that the mandatory CEO pay ratio figure should not be used to compare different types of businesses.
The Supreme Court unanimously decided that the Mall of America can challenge a lease it has with Sears. In 1991, the mall gave Sears a 100-year lease on a three-story location for just $10 per year. Mall of America objected, saying that landlords have a right to "adequate assurance of future performance" by whoever took over Sears' lease. The bankruptcy court overruled the mall's objection. That appeal too was dismissed, which led the mall to petition the Supreme Court.
April 17 (Reuters) - Grunge music pioneers Soundgarden and Vicky Cornell, the widow of lead singer Chris Cornell, have settled a legal dispute over the late singer's unreleased recordings, according to a joint post from their Instagram accounts on Monday. They said the "amicable" settlement marked a new partnership between Soundgarden and Cornell's estate that will allow fans to "hear the final songs that the band and Chris were working on." She claimed the band members withheld the estate's share of royalties to "strong arm" her into giving them unreleased recordings Chris Cornell made before his death in 2017. Her lawsuit argued that Cornell recorded the songs separately from the band and that he was their sole owner. The band countersued her for refusing to turn over the recordings, which it said were meant for a Soundgarden album for UMG.
